PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria have gone up 1.9 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.31 a gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy.
Peoria’s prices are four cents lower than a month ago and just over 43 cents lower than this time last year.
GasBuddy says the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $3.13 a gallon, and the highest price was $3.49. Illinois’ lowest price was $2.78 and the highest price was $4.59 a gallon.
The national average gas price has gone up 1.2 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.11 on Monday. That’s up 1.3 cents from a month ago and 32.8 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy.
“It was another relatively tame week at the pump, with the national average inching up for the second straight week as oil prices briefly touched the $70 per barrel mark before sliding late in the week on news that OPEC+ will raise oil production again in September,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy says.
“While price cycling led gas prices in some states to see double-digit increases or decreases, most saw only modest fluctuations. With OPEC+ now fully restoring production to 2023 levels— and fresh economic concerns arising from a weak jobs report and renewed tariff threats—oil prices may continue to face headwinds, potentially paving the way for a decline in gas prices in the weeks ahead, De Haan says.”
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois says the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area on Monday was $3.32, the state average was $3.43, and the national average price of unleaded gas was $3.15.
