PEORIA, Ill – Peoria County, in conjunction with GFL, will be holding three hazardous waste collection sites within three months. All of them are open to Peoria County residents only.
The collection sites and dates are: Saturday, August 2 at Expo Gardens in Peoria, Saturday, September 23 at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe and Saturday, October 4 at Alpha Park in Bartonville.
The events will take place from 7 a.m. until noon each day.
Peoria County Sustainability Coordinator Becca Cottrell tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan these collection dates are different than others that take place throughout the area in that no registration is required.
“Just show up between seven and noon,” Cottrell said, “or between seven and let’s call it 11:45.”
Accepted materials include oil-based paints.
“Any explosive, ignitable, caustic material,” Cottrell said. “So, if you have cleaners or paint thinners, solvents, sometimes old pesticides.”
Household batteries, hobby chemicals, drain cleaners and lead acid batteries are also acceptable.
Items that will not be accepted include fireworks, agricultural wastes, controlled substances, propane tanks, smoke detectors, and farm machinery oil.
More information, including a listing of what are and are not acceptable can be found HERE.
