PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters responded to a residential fire on the city’s Southside Tuesday night.
Fire Battalion Chief Larry Carter says around 7 p.m., crews found smoke coming from a two-story home in the area of W. Ayres and N. Western Avenues. A large amount of clothes and debris were on fire in the kitchen.
Quick action by firefighters prevented the fire from spreading beyond the kitchen area.
The home appeared to be vacant at the time of the fire. A search found no one inside.
Crews had the fire under control within 10 minutes, but they remained on the scene for about an hour.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. No firefighter injuries were reported at the scene.
Damage is estimated at $1,000.
