PEORIA, Ill. – A man has received the maximum sentence for the shooting death of a teenager two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 25-year-old Tramier Pate was sentenced to 85 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections on Wednesday.
Pate was found guilty in May of First Degree Murder in the death of 14-year-old Omarius Gates.
Gates was shot in the back during an attempted robbery on June 26th, 2023, while a large group that included both of them walked to a nearby store after a basketball game at the Woodlands Apartment Complex.
Pate pressed a gun into Gates’ back and attempted to rob him, and fired a single shot.
During the sentencing hearing, Gates’ mother testified that Omarius was “everything” to her, and all that’s left are memories, pictures, and visits to his grave.
