PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria will soon begin a multi-year project to improve one of its main roads.
Work is scheduled to start next month at the earliest on a $10-million project for MacArthur Highway, with completion planned for summer of 2027.
Public Works Engineer Andrea Klopfenstein tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that the work will be similar to how it looks now.
“We’re going to have one lane in each direction, we’ll continue to have the center bi-directional turn lane. The one change that will be noticeable is that we’ll be moving the bike lane from being on-street to behind the curb and creating a multi-use path,” Klopfenstein said.
Klopfenstein says the project will be funded through a combination of state grants, city funds, and capital funding.
She says the hope is the improvements can increase interest and economic growth on MacArthur.
