PEORIA, Ill. – An investigation is underway after a possible heat-related death of a Chicago man in Peoria on Wednesday.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says 61-year-old Tyrone Smith was found unresponsive with labored breathing on a bench on Hamilton Boulevard, near the Methodist Atrium.
Harwood says Smith was taken to Carle Health Methodist in grave condition, with an internal body temperature reported at 110 degrees.
He says Smith was pronounced dead just before 4:15 P.M. after his condition deteriorated.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Harwood says it is not known at this time if Smith was staying with family or friends, or if he was homeless.
