WEST PEORIA, Ill. – There’s a new home for government in West Peoria.
City leaders on Monday night cut the ribbon on a brand new City Hall building, at the corner of Rohmann and Sterling.
The new building features a community room that will double as city council chambers, larger offices for city staff to work in, and the new home for the city’s memorial to war heroes.
Mayor James Dillon says the new city hall was a concept that’s been in the works for close to three decades. With its completion, Dillon says it’s one of the top accomplishments of his 30+ years as mayor.
“When we were able to work with Haddad’s to rebuild after their fire, and when we were able to work with Raber’s after their fire, and getting two family businesses back open in West Peoria, this ranks right up there with that,” Dillon said.
The building took around a year to build, from shovels in the ground to Monday’s ribbon cutting. Dillon says the construction, along with the landscaping, cost around $4.5 million. He says the city was able to pay the amount without borrowing any money.
