PEORIA, Ill. – Saturday morning’s storms didn’t stop the River City Pride Festival from celebrating Peoria’s LGBTQ+ community and their supporters.
The weather forced organizers to push back the event’s start time by 30 minutes, and to cancel the affirming faith ceremony, and a drag show.
25 News reports despite the rain, people still brought their rainbow umbrellas to celebrate at Peoria Proud’s biggest social outreach day.
“It just shows the persistence of this community, and the resiliency, and the amazing respect that they have for each other and the commitment to creating safe spaces,” said Cassie Lucchesi, president of Peoria Proud.
New for 2025, the festival brought out a community art board signed by people in attendance, and a digital screen highlighting LGBTQ+ history in Peoria and Illinois.
