PEORIA, Ill. – While Peoria Public Schools has a full staff of bus drivers for the upcoming school year, they are warning that delays are possible as new drivers learn their routes.
Classes start on July 30.
Peoria Public Schools Transportation Director Josh Collins told 25 News they are always recruiting. He said the number of drivers fluctuates, and this year there are 89 bus routes and 114 drivers.
But parents, beware, there will be delays at the beginning of the year as drivers learn new routes.
“It takes several weeks for all the dust to settle for the start of the school year,” said Collins. “By Labor Day, everything should be running smoothly and on time.”
Collins added that there are always standby drivers in the office to replace anyone who quits or calls off sick.
