DES MOINES, Ia. – Peoria City’s run in the United League Two national soccer playoffs is one-and-done.
The Carp fell to Minneapolis City SC Friday afternoon in the Round of 32 in a penalty shoot-out in Des Moines.
The match ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, and 30 minutes of extra time.
Last year’s playoff hero for Peoria City, Luke Persenico, scored both goals in the match.
Minneapolis City scored first in the 2nd minute. But Persenico found the net in the 13th minute, then on a penalty in the 67th minute. Minneapolis City leveled a few minutes later, which closed the scoring in regular and extra time.
Last season, Peoria City made it to the USL League Two national championship match.
