PEORIA, Ill. – The head of Peoria Public Schools is planning to step down from the role next year.
Superintendent Doctor Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat confirmed in a city of Peoria memo that she will retire after the upcoming school year.
Kherat says she is “grateful for the opportunity” to lead the district, and wants to finish strong.
Kherat has served as Superintendent since 2015, and was honored as Illinois Superintendent of the Year in 20-24.
In her time as Superintendent, Kherat has implemented a district-wide cell phone ban, a yearlong school calendar, and multi-million dollar renovations to Peoria Stadium.
There is no word yet on what the district plans to do in replacing Kherat.
