PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria teenager accused of killing a man while speeding out of a tow yard during a carjacking pleaded not guilty in court Thursday.
18-year-old Terrance Shaw was arrested in June along with 16-year-old Jaylin Polnitz for the June 9th incident at Billie Jo’s Towing in Peoria. The teens were caught on surveillance video.
Shaw is charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing 70-year-old William Collier of Bartonville when the pair drove through the gate hitting Collier and another employee.
The other man suffered only minor injuries.
Peoria Police believe Shaw was the driver of the stolen vehicle. Polnitz said he didn’t know Shaw was going to ram the gate. The 16-year-old was released on condition he wear a GPS ankle monitor and comply with a curfew.
According to 25 News, Shaw will be back in court on August 14th.
