PEORIA, Ill. – A new senior housing development will be coming to South Peoria in the next couple of years.
The Peoria Opportunities Foundation and Pivotal Housing Partners announced on Monday MacArthur Senior Flats. It will feature 52 units, 45-one-bedroom and seven two-bedroom apartments for seniors aged 55 and older on the MacArthur Corridor.
It’s the second housing development project between the two groups. Churchview Garden Homes is currently under construction and is expected to finish its first couple buildings by next year.
Peoria Opportunities Executive Director Irina Riggenbach says the development is needed in South Peoria.
“We did conduct just a quick survey of the senior housing in the area, and a lot of them are currently maintaining waitlists,” Riggenbach said. “So I think this’ll be a great opportunity for those that are 55 and older to have some place to go while they’re waiting on other waitlists.”
Riggenbach says she is hopeful the housing will lead to a revitalization of the area, with more commercial buildings and housing coming in.
Construction is expected to start for MacArthur Senior Flats next year, with completion by 2027.
