PEKIN, Ill. – A restaurant and bar that moved from Farmington to Pekin after a devastating fire four years ago is closing its doors for good citing rising costs of running the business.
The fire destroyed Ashers Bar and Grill at its former Farmington location in 2021. The following year, Ashers moved to 353 Court Street in Pekin across from the Tazewell County Courthouse
Saturday, Ashers’ owners announced on Facebook that the business will close next Sunday, July 13 or until they run out of supplies.
“Due to escalating operational costs, including increased cost of goods, and wages, we have been compelled to make this very difficult decision,” the post said. “We are deeply appreciative of the support we have received over the past three years in the Pekin location.”
The owners went to say that “this was a very challenging decision, and we had hoped to establish a premier dining experience for all. We express our sincere gratitude to the community and surrounding areas for their support.”
The owners are encouraging customers to continue supporting local small businesses.
25 News reports meantime, the building leased to Ashers in Downtown Pekin is up for sale, according to an online listing by Hawkeye Commerical Real Estate.
The sale price is $525,000, or $3,500 per square foot. The listing said the building is in “wonderful condition” with two upper levels that could be remodeled into apartments.
