SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The 4th of July weekend gets underway Friday, and Illinois State Police will be out in force watching for the “fatal four”.
Those are the four most common contributing factors in fatal crashes in Illinois.
“One of the main ones to be aware of, is of course wearing your seat belt. Whether you’re in-town, traveling on the highway, traveling long or short distances, the main thing when you’re traveling in your vehicle, is having your seat belts on,” Trooper Shafer McKune says.
ISP will also be on the lookout for speeding, distracted drivers, and drunk drivers.
“In this day and age, especially with the number of rideshare services that are available, there’s no excuse at all for traveling after you’ve been drinking and intoxicated,” McKune says.
Law enforcement in-town and across the state will also be watching for seat belt violations, speeding and distracted driving.
Beefed up enforcement begins on Friday and continues through Sunday night.
