PEORIA, Ill. – The League of Women Voters of Greater Peoria is continuing its efforts to keep people informed about important issues.
The League invited the public to the Universalist Unitarian Church in Peoria to hear from local experts on how the federal government impacts people locally.
This is the third “Shine on Democracy” information event. The attendees heard from people knowledgeable about weather services, agriculture, and healthcare.
The non-partisan event did not endorse any political candidates or parties.
LWV board member Bill Poorman told 25 News, “A core mission of the League of Women Voters is to keep voters informed, because how can we make the best choices? This is self-government, this is democracy, and we can only make the best judgments when we have the best information.
There aren’t formal plans for another event like this yet, but during the event group leaders did a survey asking if there was community interest. The League said there are enough local experts and issues for another information session.
