PEORIA, Ill. – Another round of demolition of the old McClugage Bridge span is scheduled for this week.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says, weather permitting, the next demolition event will take place between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. Thursday.
This will be the fifth of eight rounds of demolition events to take place.
Thursday’s event will demolish the last of the steel components of the old bridge, including the steel girders of spans on the East Peoria side, and the remainder of the underdeck truss on the Peoria side just left of the main truss.
Roads around the McClugage Bridge will close at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The explosives will be detonated once the roads are closed, the security perimeter is deemed safe and the contractor has performed its final safety checks.
Anyone wishing to watch this or any of the events in person is reminded that a security perimeter around the blast area will be in effect on land and in the water. Pedestrians are also asked to be mindful of venturing onto private property without the property owners’ permission.
