PEORIA, Ill. – The trend of gas prices falling in central Illinois continues for another week.
GasBuddy reports the average price of a gallon of unleaded sits at $3.59/g. That’s a 6.4 cent drop in the past week, 22.3 cents lower than one month ago, and 69.3 cents lower than one year ago.
The cheapest price in the Peoria-area, according to GasBuddy, is $3.21/g, with the most expensive at $3.99/g.
AAA is reporting an average of $3.60/g in its latest Peoria-Pekin metro area survey. Their average is 5.4 cents lower than one week ago, 23.4 cents lower than one month ago, and 69.2 cents lower than one year ago.
The trend of lower gas prices also extends across Illinois. GasBuddy is reporting a 7.3 cent drop in the past week to a statewide average of $3.58/g, with AAA also reporting an average 7.3 cent drop to a price of $3.61/g.
Analysts believe the dip in prices is a trend that will continue for the foreseeable future.
“While the price of oil jumped some 5% last week, I remain steadfast that additional declines are coming to gasoline prices the way the situation stands now, but remain cautious that this depends on actions that are not foreseeable, mainly the conflict in the Middle East,” says GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan.
De Haan says the national average could see its lowest level in six months soon.
