PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The corner lot where the historic Hale Church once stood could soon be in the possession of the city of Peoria.
25 News reports the city is in the process of finalizing the title transfer of the lot at Main and High Streets from its current owner, Kim Blinkenstaff’s KDB Group.
Hale Church had stood for 120 years, and was purchased by KDB in July of 2021 with the hopes of saving and restoring it. The building suffered significant damage in a 1999 fire, and roof issues likely led to the building’s demolition.
It was demolished last August with an effort to try and salvage as much of the architecture as possible. There’s no word on the location of what was saved.
Peoria Community Development Director Joe Dulin says once the city takes over the corner lot, his office will reach out to residents in the High Street neighborhood to determine what the space will be used for.
