WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – The body of a missing 15-year-old boy from Washington who went missing in a rural Roanoke pond Sunday afternoon has been found.
Woodford County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword says the body was found by divers in the pond at around 11:00 A.M. Monday and recovered.
The boy was swimming with a group in the pond when he went into the water from a trampoline. He was discovered missing a few minutes later, and it was unclear if he exited the water or not.
Crews searched the area until around 10:30 P.M. Sunday, then returned before daybreak Monday morning to continue the search.
The Woodford County Coroner’s Office says an autopsy on Logan Smith affirmed the cause of death as drowning.
Meantime, Washington Community High School officials say the district’s crisis counseling team will be made available for students who need them starting Tuesday.
Woodford County ESDA, Woodford County Sheriff’s Deputies, Secor Fire, and the Hudson underwater dive team assisted in the search.
An investigation by the Woodford County Sheriff’s Office is continuing.

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. – First responders are searching for a 15-year-old boy who reportedly went missing in a pond over the weekend in rural Roanoke.
Woodford County Chief Deputy Dennis Tipsword says deputies were told at around 5:15 p.m. Sunday, the boy went missing while swimming with a group of kids and adults.
Secor Fire, Woodford County ESDA Search and Rescue and Woodford County deputies searched the ground Sunday night. The Hudson dive team also did a water search with no results.
A search for the 15-year-old resumed before dawn Monday morning.
