WASHINGTON, Ill. – A sick employee was linked to an outbreak of the norovirus in Tazewell County last November.
In a report released Friday, the Centers for Disease Control revealed that as the cause of the outbreak at the Monical’s Pizza in Washington.
The report states that the employee worked from November 21-23, and prepared salad without gloves. It also says the employee was vomiting on November 22nd.
The restaurant was temporarily closed from November 26-29 for cleaning and disinfecting.
The center’s investigation determined that contamination occurred through food prep that included salads, toppings, and dressings into individual portions that were consumed the next day.
The CDC says more than 300 people were affected by either consuming the salad, or additional sauces and dressings. There were no hospitalizations or deaths related to the outbreak.
Symptoms of the norovirus include diarrhea and vomiting.
