EAST PEORIA, Ill. – As if a heatwave wasn’t enough, there’s some potential severe weather to deal with Friday night.
That’s according to 25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins.
“A weak cold front interacting with our hot and humid air mass will trigger showers and thunderstorms Friday evening,” said Collins. “There’s a chance a few of the storms could be severe with damaging winds as the main threat, along with heavy down pours.”
The National Weather Service puts the Peoria area at a rating of 2 out of 5 for the possibility of severe weather, but says up to three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.
“The oppressive heat, humidity, and storms will move south of the area on the weekend, but it will be warm and muggy,” said Collins, though temperatures will be about ten degrees less than the highs of Thursday and Friday.
