PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The new school year starts in a couple weeks, and some Peoria-area kids are ready for it to begin after a Saturday afternoon event.
The 4th annual Back-to-School Celebration by Product of the Project took place on the West Bluff.
Kids at the event received backpacks and school supplies, fitted for school uniforms, and even received haircuts.
Product of the Project Found Antwaun Banks tells 25 News that he understands the need for giving back to the community.
“A lot of people can’t afford book bags and school supplies for us to be a one-stop shop where they can get all of it here. It’s great to be able to provide that. Me coming from, like my name says, Product of the Project, there’s been times when we have needed in our family. For us to be able to come back to the community where we came from and give back, that’s the good feeling I get from it,” Banks says.
One student was also awarded the DeAndre Foote scholarship at the event.
Other activities at the celebration included horseback riding and a voter registration drive.
