PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria resident and convicted felon will spend four years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to weapons charges earlier this year.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Terrance Dotson, 50, received that sentence Thursday on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Prosecutors say Peoria County Sheriffs Deputies saw an SUV driven by Dotson go off the road and strike a mailbox in August of last year.
When the deputy pulled the vehicle over, he saw Dotson reach into the back seat, and that’s when a gun was discovered sitting next to a passenger.
Prosecutors say a loaded magazine was also found in the vehicle.
Dotson could have faced up to 15 years in prison.
