PEORIA, Ill. – The host of a popular and often poignant program on public television will be the keynote speaker at next year’s Martin Luther King, Junior Celebration Luncheon in Peoria.
Luncheon organizer “Public Employees for Community Concern” says Doctor Henry Louis Gates will be at the luncheon next January 15th.
Gates is currently in the ninth season of the PBS show “Finding Your Roots,” with a tenth season planned for next year.
Gates is also a professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard, and has also produced a number of documentaries and other PBS programs.
“We are excited to have American literary critic, scholar, professor, producer and journalist, Dr. Henry Louis Gates as the keynote speaker for our 32 nd annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Luncheon,” said Peoria Mayor Rita Ali, in a news release. “As we gather to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. we are honored to have one of the most widely known scholars on African American studies in the world today.”
Tickets for the luncheon are $60, or a table of ten for $600.
