PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police say eight teenagers were arrested on multiple charges late-Wednesday afternoon after reports of reckless driving throughout the city.
Peoria Police say multiple calls came in just before 6:00 P.M. related to reckless driving.
Officers found an unreported stolen vehicle in the area of Spring and Jefferson.
Following that, they spotted two previously reported stolen vehicles following each other at a high rate of speed. The occupants of the two vehicles reportedly were hanging out of the windows in the area of Sheridan and War Memorial.
While attempting to stop the vehicles, officers observed one of the stolen vehicles crash into another at Knoxville and War Memorial. The occupants from that stolen vehicle then allegedly fled into the other stolen vehicle and left the scene. Police say the victims in the vehicle that was struck suffered minor injuries.
The other stolen vehicle stopped after attempting to make a turn in the area of Flora and Archer, with all eight teenagers fleeing on foot after. The eight were eventually arrested.
Police say they ended up recovering three stolen vehicles and two guns.
The eight arrested include:
- A 14-year-old female for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Resisting/Obstructing. She was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 15-year-old male for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Resisting/Obstructing. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 15-year-old female for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Resisting/Obstructing, Obstructing Identification, and four separate Retail Theft cases. She was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 16-year-old female for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Resisting/Obstructing. She was released to the custody of her mother.
- A 16-year-old male for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Resisting/Obstructing, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 16-year-old male on two Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle charges and Resisting/Obstructing. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 17-year-old male for Criminal Trespass to a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
- A 17-year-old female for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Resisting/Obstructing, and a Peoria County Warrant.
