PEORIA, Ill. – A man accused of shooting at Peoria County’s Sheriff’s Deputies in March has been arrested.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins says an investigation by sheriff’s deputies, Peoria Police, and the ATF gave probable cause to connect 23-year-old Qualin Lewis of Peoria to the shooting.
Lewis was arrested Wednesday at around 2:30 P.M. at an apartment in the area of Ann and Oregon Streets.
Officers found a Draco AK-47 pistol in the apartment Lewis was located in during the arrest.
Lewis is charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and a Department of Corrections Parole Warrant. Watkins says more charges could be added by the State’s Attorney at a later date.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of March 16th when sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Ann and Oregon Streets. A black male in a hoodie reportedly fired several shots at deputies, then fled on foot.
