PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria City Council on Tuesday night voted unanimously to allocate $75,000 to end back-in-only parking downtown on Fulton Street near City Hall.
At-Large Council Member Zach Oyler tells WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, the change will come sometime before the end of the year.
“Obviously this is not one of the biggest issues we have in the City of Peoria, but, it’s one I get a whole lot of complaints about. I started advocating in 2016, when I got elected, to undo this,” Oyler says.
Back-in-only parking began in downtown Peoria in 2015.
“It will be turned back the opposite direction, so the lines will be diagonally facing so that you drive forward-facing, the meters will be turned around, and we will do a re-coating of the street,” Oyler says.
$75,000 for the project will come from the downtown conservation TIF fund and will be used to place a seal over the pavement so that new parking spaces can be painted.
It will be considered a parking violation to back into the spots downtown after the change is made on Fulton Street.
