PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man was arrested on weapons charges during the latest of Chief Eric Echevarria’s Anti-Violence Initiative special directed patrols.
Peoria Police say officers on patrol saw a large group Thursday around 5:00 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Junior Park, but as they started to disperse, one man was holding his waist and running.
That turned out to be Marqwuan Shipp, 18, who allegedly had a loaded handgun on him.
Shipp was taken to jail on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon without a valid FOID Card, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Under 21. He was released, though, with a notice to appear in court.
Seven people in all were arrested during the special detail. Police say 42 traffic stops were made resulting in five citations and “numerous warnings. One gun was seized, and one vehicle was impounded.
