WASHINGTON, D.C. — While at North America’s Building Trades Unions Legislative Conference, Gov. J-B Pritzker spoke about the role that unions play in Illinois’ economy.
“When I spoke with you four year ago, Illinois had been plagued by an anti-worker governor hell-bent on union-busting, so that he could lower your wages,” Pritzker said.
Pritzker was referring to the state’s previous administration under Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.
Gov. J-B Pritzker has advocated for unions, passing the Workers’ Rights Amendment to the Illinois Constitution, which ensures collective bargaining rights for unions across the state.
Pritzker has also advocated for union rights across the nation.
“All over the Midwest, from Missouri to Michigan, to Wisconsin, Minnesota and so many other places, workers’ rights are gaining strength,” Pritzker said.
The governor’s pro-union legislation in Illinois, and his recent actions are sparking speculation that he could be gearing up for a run at a higher office.
