PEORIA, Ill. — A fire that started in a kitchen caused $60,000 damage to a Peoria home Monday evening, forcing a family to find temporary housing.
Crews arrived, finding the kitchen fully engulfed in flames. The fire was put out quickly, but firefighters were on-scene over an hour extinguishing hot spots.
A fire investigator determined unattended cooking was the preliminary cause of the fire that broke out around 5:15 p.m. at the home near the corner of N. Melody Lane and W. Glen Avenue.
Peoria Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Hascall said one of the the residents, a man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.
Two other family members and their pets got out safely.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
