PEORIA, Ill. – Big things are happening in the Department of Interactive Media at Bradley University.
Majors in the department include Animation, Game Design, Interactive Media, User Interaction/User Experience, and Game Art.
Students in those departments showcased their talents on Saturday at the Peoria Riverfront Museum as part of the 10th annual FUSE. The event featured exhibits such as animations made specifically to be played on the museum’s Dome Planetarium, playable games made by Bradley students, and a gallery of game art.
Faculty advisor Quentin Young tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” the department has seen a lot of success in the past ten years.
“Right now the game design program at Bradley is currently 12th in the nation, we’ve been coming up in the past five years or so. We’ve got award-winning animation students across the United States. We’ve got students going to national recognized conventions,” Young said.
One of the current students is Rachel Rudy, who is studying game design at Bradley.
Rudy tells “Greg and Dan” that she didn’t play video games growing up, but has found that storytelling and game design goes hand-in-hand.
“The core to a good story is about empathy, and nothing builds more empathy than playing as the actual character,” Rudy said.
