SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Some of the best counties for corn and soybean production in the United States are in central Illinois.
Data released from the USDA for 2022 county estimates shows Illinois as the top state for soybean production. The state was 2nd in corn production behind Iowa.
Illinois had the top eleven counties in the country for soybean production. Tazewell, Woodford, Logan, and Stark Counties are included in that list. Piatt County was the top producer with 74.2 bushels per acre.
McLean County led the entire county in corn production, with nearly 71 million bushels produced.
Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Jerry Costello in a statement says the numbers show agriculture as the top industry in the state, with corn and soybean exports totaling more than $3.5 billion.
