PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Health Department says their monitoring norovirus cases.
The department says outbreaks have been increasing in Peoria County and the Midwest.
It’s referred to as a “stomach flu,” but is not a flu. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach pain.
The virus is highly contagious and can spread from person to person through contaminated food or water.
The department says people can stop the spread of it by frequently washing hands, cleaning and disinfecting food surfaces, and staying home if sick.
