PEORIA, Ill. — A man was hospitalized after a shooting early Monday evening on Peoria’s south side.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Peoria Police responded to a pair of Shot Spotter alerts, one for 25 rounds and multiple shooters, in the area of S. Stanley and W. Hayes Streets, near Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The incident occurred less than a day after a home in Peoria’s East Bluff was hit by about 41 bullets late Sunday night.
Peoria Police Spokesperson Semone Roth said the victim in Monday night’s shooting suffered a graze wound to the head. Their injuries were non-life-threatening.
Police Chief Eric Echevarria did not conceal his anger at the latest violence.
“This is a senseless act. Quite frankly what you have is people who are cowards who want to get out and disrupt our neighborhoods, commit crimes, and shoot, not thinking about the potential victims we can have,” Echevarria told 25 News.
PPD has no suspects at this time. An investigation is underway.
