PEORIA, Ill. – A Washington woman who admitted buying a gun for her son that was later used in a homicide is going to federal prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Kristin Jackson, 40, was sentenced in federal court Monday to almost four years in prison, after pleading guilty last September to a charge of Making a False Statement During the Purchase of a Firearm Later Used in a Violent Crime.
Prosecutors believe Jackson lied when purchasing a gun from a sporting goods store in Pekin in May of 2021.
She said she was buying the gun for herself, but it turned out she bought the gun for her now-20-year-old son Eric, who is charged with murder for the death of 21-year-old Michael Johnson in July of 2021.
Kristin Jackson reportedly knew her son was involved in drug trafficking at the time, and told her son she didn’t want her name “on someone’s body.”
Eric Jackson is scheduled to go to trial in May for the death.
