PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Fire Department was called out late Monday night to a home in the area of N. Douglas and W. Windom Streets.
When fire crews arrived around 11:30 p.m., they found smoke coming from the back of the home, then fire in the basement.
Fire Battalion Chief Tom Sander said though the fire was contained to the basement, the home suffered significant smoke damage.
Eight residents got out safely, but were displaced, receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
Damage is estimated at $20,000.
