PEORIA, Ill. – One of only two candidates for a seat on the Peoria Public School Board in the April election has been thrown off the ballot, while one will stay.
The Peoria County Board of Election Commissioners made that decision Tuesday, as District 1 incumbent and school board president Martha Ross contested Keisha Alexander’s candidacy for a full five-year term.
25 News reports the election commission determined 135 of Alexander’s signatures to get on the ballot were struck for various reasons, with 53 of them gone because of a notary public’s clerical error.
That left her short of the required 200 needed to be on the ballot. She could, however, run as a write-in candidate.
Alexander’s daughter, Charma St. Louis, challenged Ross’ nomination. But that was rejected, in part, because St. Louis doesn’t live in the school board district in question.
