EAST PEORIA, Ill. – A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect across a good portion of Illinois — including Peoria — Thursday morning through Saturday morning, for a weather event that will remind us just how dangerous Mother Nature can be sometimes.
“The storm begins with snow tomorrow morning through evening,” said Chuck Collins, 25 News First Alert Chief Meteorologist. “It looks like three to five inches around Peoria, but there are other bigger problems. Wind gusts of 50 miles per hour will create blizzard-like conditions and hazardous travel tomorrow afternoon in to Friday. Finally, arctic air comes in behind the storm with rapidly-falling temperatures and wind chills of -25 to -30.”
It’s expected the usual parking bans and pleas to move cars off the street will be in effect in most communities.
In Peoria, the city says GFL will not pick up trash or recycling on Friday because of the weather. That will be moved to Saturday. Unrelated to the storm, but due to Christmas, GFL says trash and recycling will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week, starting Monday, due to the observed Christmas holiday.
