PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria Police Department is giving the community another chance to get rid of unwanted guns this weekend.
PPD is hosting its third gun buyback of the year on Saturday, December 10 from 10 a.m.- 10 p.m.
Buyback locations will be at First Baptist Church and Higher Dimensions Church, both in Peoria.
The event will allow residents to anonymously trade in functional guns for gift cards of up to $500 dollars per weapon.
Funding for the buyback event is being provided by a private donor.
During the last buyback, 92 weapons were turned in. Peoria Police hope to see similar success on Saturday.
PPD says weapons will be checked to make sure they haven’t been used in a crime, then destroyed.
