PEORIA, Ill. – What’s left of the Peoria County Auditor’s office will stay in tact for now.
That’s according to Peoria County Circuit Court Judge James Mack, who has issued yet another injunction keeping the office in tact past Thursday, when funding would have stopped.
Voters in the November election favored eliminating the office, but the election question didn’t say when the office would be disbanded if approved.
County officials decided that would be with the next fiscal year, even though Auditor Jessica Thomas’ term ends in 2024.
The injunction says the office stays open until the current court case is over.
25 News says Thomas’ attorney believes she should at least be able to finish her term before she’s shown the door.
