PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria community is giving thanks…for a winning football team.
The Peoria High Lions football team Wednesday hosted a pre-Thanksgiving luncheon as the team gets down to the wire prior to Saturday’s Class 5A championship game against LaGrange Park Nazareth at the University of Illinois.
Head Coach Tim Thornton says it’s been an intense and different week of practice, but thinks his team will be ready.
“It’s a Saturday morning game. That’s one of the reasons we’re practicing at 8:00 a.m. right now,” said Thornton. “In order to get to an 8:00 a.m. practice, you might have to get up at 6:30, or whatever the case may be.”
That’t not the only difference.
“We just try to get on turf a little bit more, since we’re going to be playing a game on turf,” said Thornton. “We’ve practiced out
at the (Louisville) Slugger Dome. We’ve practiced at East Side Center. We’ll finish here, then we’ll practice on Champaign Central’s turf on Friday.”
Thornton says he and the team are grateful for the support from the community, the parents of the players, and everybody who attended Wednesday’s feast.
