PEORIA, Ill. — Republican gubernatorial nominee Darren Bailey doesn’t appear too shaken by a recent death threat received via voicemail from a young man in Chicago.
Multiple media outlets, including the Chicago Sun-Times are reporting on the case involving 21-year-old Scott Lennox.
It’s believed that on the night of October 28th, Friday, Lennox got into a heated argument over politics at a bar and then later called Bailey’s home and left an allegedly terrorizing voice message.
Cook County Prosecutors allege a wide range of deeply vitriolic threats made by Lennox on the call.
Lennox reportedly also bragged to friends about it after the fact.
During an appearance Friday morning on 1470 & 100.3 WMBD’s “The Greg and Dan Show”, Bailey seemed to take it all in stride, saying he understands how heated the political atmosphere is right now.
“Every time I come across J.B. Prtizker, even though I believe he’s destroying our state, I’m still civil about the way that I treat him,” said Bailey.
“We’ve got to start taking situations like this, in general, a little more seriously,” Bailey added.
He says he believes Governor Pritzker has “ignored” this latest threat against Bailey and his family.
According to reports, Lennox has been jailed in Cook County in the case, facing charges of felony threatening a public official, telephone harassment and harassment by electronic communications.
He was reportedly issued a $75,000 bond.
