PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Police were called to S. Saratoga Street, near W. Johnson Street and S. Richard Pryor Place, around 7:40 p.m. Monday night to a ShotSpotter alert indicating two shots were fired.
PPD Spokesperson Semone Roth says shots were fired on S. Saratoga, and a man’s body was found outside a vehicle at W. Johnson and S. Richard Pryor Place with gunshot wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders attempted life saving measures.
The victim’s identity, as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner’s Office at a later time.
No suspect information is available at this time and an investigation is ongoing.
This is Peoria’s 22nd homicide of the year and second in the past three days.
23-year-old Couriaun Atkins was found shot and killed at a home on W. Seibold, in between Idaho and Oregon in Peoria, just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
