PEKIN, Ill. — Agenda items for Pekin City Council show plans to terminate City Manager Mark Rothert and appoint an interim in his place.
Council Member Becky Cloyd confirmed the plans to 25 News on Sunday.
Cloyd said she was not speaking for the entire council, but said there is a disagreement over the future direction between the manager and the council.
Cloyd said Rothert’s contract is set to expire in November, and the council was already evaluating his performance. Rothert has held the position since 2018.
Cloyd said there was no criminal conduct that is leading to Rothert’s potential termination.
The council will discuss and vote on the decision behind closed doors in an executive session on Monday.
Cloyd expects it to be a “long conversation.”
