LaSALLE COUNTY, Ill. — The Illinois Veterans’ Home in LaSalle is experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak among its veterans and staff.
Following robust rapid testing, 42 residents and 23 staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs says that all residents who have tested positive have been moved to a negative pressure isolation unit and are being closely monitored.
All of those who tested positive are showing mild, cold-like symptoms, and no one has been hospitalized.
Communal dining has been curtailed in the vets’ home until the outbreak has ended.
Activities and social services have been modified in accordance with social distancing practices, to care for the wellbeing of the veterans.
Visitation is allowed, however, it is highly encouraged that family members delay their visit until the outbreak is resolved.
