PEORIA, Ill. — The school safety director at Peoria Public Schools on Monday announced he is running for an at-large seat on the Peoria City Council in next year’s election.
Demario Boone has worked for District 150 the past 17 years.
Boone made his plans known on his campaign’s Facebook page Monday.
“I know for our city to thrive, we have to address the root causes of our issues, and I have a plan to do it,” Boone said.
Boone said he’s “excited to empower people who are often overlooked, a platform to use their voices to affect the changes they want to see in their communities.”
At-large council members represent the whole city, rather than an individual district.
Incumbent at-large council members are Kiran Velpula, Elizabeth Jensen, Sid Ruckriegel, Zachary Oyler, and John Kelly. They have not formally declared their plans for next year.
In 2025, Peoria voters will select the mayor and representatives from the city’s five districts.
