SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department of Public Health says there is continued improvement statewide when it comes to COVID-19.
State officials say as of Friday, 10,945 new cases of the virus were reported in the last week. That’s down about 6,500 from the week before.
What’s more, the state says there are now zero counties rated by the Centers for Disease Control as having high levels of community spread of the virus. Twenty counties — including Peoria and Tazewell — are at “medium” spread.
Just under 900 people are hospitalized, 130 of which are in Intensive Care Units.
The state also says a continued average of 19,000 doses of the new bivalent COVID booster vaccine are administered each day.
