PEORIA, Ill. – Preliminary autopsy results are confirming that the victim of Peoria’s 19th homicide died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood Monday confirmed that and the identity of the victim as Jarvis Joiner, 25.
Joiner was pronounced dead more than a half hour after the shooting just before 1:00 a.m. Saturday near Greenlawn and Ann in South Peoria.
“When we pull the data, that is the exact age and demographic that shows that would be a victim of a gunshot or of a homicide,” said Eric Echevarria, Peoria Police Chief, to WMBD’s Craig Collins Monday afternoon.
As for why victims are around that particular demographic?
“Everything is immediate, and I think that’s what we’re seeing. Everybody wants an immediate solution,” said Echevarria “‘I need immediate gratification. You did something to me, I’m going to immediately respond.’ There’s no time to think about it. We see the reprocussions of it.”
Joiner was found down in an alley.
No suspects or a weapon have yet been found, and an investigation continues.
