PEORIA, Ill. – There was some thought among forecasters the severe weather that moved through northern and central Illinois late Sunday night would miss the Peoria area.
It didn’t.
The National Weather Service says 60 mile per hour wind gusts were reported at the height of the storms in parts of Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
Crews have been busy today cleaning up downed trees and tree branches throughout the area. An IDOT crew was among those working on Knoxville Avenue Monday morning.
Power lines were also downed, with Ameren reporting more than four thousand without power at one point.
Heavy rain was also part of the equation. Storm reports indicated more than an inch of rain here, while areas close to Normal reported more than three inches of rain.
